Through our work with schools and the annual awards Northern Grid has identified many examples of best practice in the use of ICT across the North East. After talking to schools about how we can improve the way we share this best practice we have decided to establish a Northern Grid Leading Schools Network.

Northern Grid Leading Schools use ICT in excellent and innovative ways, they have knowledge and experiences they can share and recognise the need to keep learning from others.   Many of the schools will use technology across the whole school others will use technology in a more limited way but have particular areas of expertise e.g. handheld learning, social media.

The launch event is an opportunity for the schools to get to know each other and help Northern Grid to plan the work of the new network.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only

 The event is targeted at head teachers or members of the schools’ Senior Leadership Teams who can help us identify how the group will operate and what commitment schools will be able to make.

 School Input / Introductions

 This session is for schools to introduce themselves to the group, each school will be able to talk for 2-3 minutes.  This will be an informal session so no need to prepare anything unless you want to.

Things you may want to cover are:

• Name and description of your school – phase, LA, location, intake
• Brief overview of how ICT is being used in your school – any experiences you think others could learn from
• Any areas of ICT / broadband technology you would like to develop / areas you would like to find out more about at future meetings

Role of the group - discussion

• What would you like to get out of this group?
• What commitment could your school make e.g.  how can you share your experiences with others within the group and outside.  How often would you like the group to meet?
• How should the group be organised?
• How will we share the work of the group with other schools?
• How can the group help Northern Grid to develop its role in supporting schools
