One of the great benefits of broadband technology is that it allows learners and teachers to work in ways that haven’t been possible before. Within the Northern Grid partner LAs we have many teachers and learners doing exceptional work. This area aims to share and celebrate the excellent practice in the region and to inspire and encourage others to try things out.
Do you want to find out about exciting and innovative use of ICT? Each year Northern Grid organises regional ICT in Education Awards. The winners and highly commended schools can be seen on the awards site with examples of their entries.
Think you can do better? Check out the categories and entry form for this year.
Here you can search for case studies that cover a wide area of education. Examples include studies on software applications and whole school ICT initiatives. If your school is doing interesting things let us know we are always looking for new examples.
There are many useful applications and resources available online. This site is a collection of some of the ones we’ve seen used effectively. If your favourites aren’t here let us know so we can add them. We’d love to add details about how schools are using them so please share your experiences.
Innovation Bids
We are not currently considering any bid applications. Please check back at a later date.
Do you have a good idea for using technology to support teaching and learning? Do you need a little support to put your ideas into practice? Why not submit a bid to Northern Grid?
In the past the Northern Grid Regional Content Advisory Group has identified content development projects for Northern Grid to work on. These projects have involved Northern Grid working with teachers from its partner LEAs.
The resources produced are published on the Northern Grid website. Since 2005 Northern Grid has invited schools to bid for funding to support projects they are running in schools. These projects needed to use ICT and broadband to support teaching and learning. Content projects need to:
- Be useful for schools and teachers across the region and beyond
- Produce an online resource or make use of the Northern Grid network
- Exploit the benefits of broadband through the use of one or more of: video, images, audio, video conferencing, interactive activities, real time communications, mobile technologies
- Encourage interaction and collaboration within and outside the school
- Include support materials and activities for teachers and pupils (pupil involvement in creation of resources is encouraged but not compulsory)
- Embed more effective and creative use of technologies across the learning community
- Consideration of safety and security issues.
